International senior citizen policies encourage aging workers to postpone retirement

John Beard, director of World Health Organization's Dept of Aging and Life Course created a campaign to encourage employers to allow workers to keep their jobs when they reach their 80s and 90s.

Beard said that he believes taking advantage of older workers is the solution to many of the problems posed by the global aging population. However, many countries are still encouraging workers to retire early, and focusing on the older generation's potential impact on social services and health care. Read full article.

Job forecast: Boomer Retirees in Demand

When the nation comes out of the current jobs recession - and this may take two to three years - we will begin to see spot shortages in labor markets. If the economy continues to improve, the spot shortages will become more general, and we will experience the shortages our research projects. By 2018, with no change in current labor force participation rates or immigration rates and an expected return to healthy economic growth, we will have more jobs than people to fill them. Boomer retirements to limit Canadian economic growth: Conference Board of Canada

Labour shortages caused by the onslaught of baby-boomer retirements will be "the dominant economic trend" in Canada between 2015 and 2030, due to the limits it will place on the country's economic growth, says a Conference Board of Canada report released Wednesday. Read full article.
